A: It depends on the dog & the hair type. I have a husky, so I use it more than someone with a curly-haired retriever or a short, fine-haired dog
Q: Does it have a razor?
A: No, it has no razor. Honestly, it's the BEST grooming tool for dogs I have ever had, and it's truly amazing. I own the large and the small sizes. You'd be surprised by the amount of loose hair & undercoat it pulls out. My dogs ABSOLUTELY L O V E it! I recommend it very strongly and have said so again and again.
Q: Does this only take out dead hair, or does it actually cut the hair as it moves along? I realize it isn't a shaver, but could it leave thin patches?
A: It slices through debris (chiggers, other seeds) caught in thick fur. I run it over my Golden retriever every day and end up with a handful of hair after each session. It has never left a thinned-out spot, just a silky smooth coat.
Q: How well does it handle really stubborn knots?
A: It does the job, but you need to keep working the comb through them. At times it's easier to snip off the large knot and then use this brush on the smaller tangle underneath. The sharp blades cut through the hair and thin it out.

A: Yes, it suits dogs with short, medium or long coats. It has two heads, so you can pick the teeth that fit your dog's hair length and whether it sheds heavily.
